Welcome to the Merry Mahjong Mob blog from the Mobster.

Around the middle of last year, my friend Margaret decided to organize a Mahjong Club at U3A Noosa.  The idea was to welcome members who were interested in playing Mahjong, no matter what their level of experience, with special attention given to beginners.

mahjong mahj tile set 3d model - Mahjong Tiles Set... by hiddevandijk
This is a typical set of Mahjong tiles.
The Dots (shown at the top of this set) are also called Circles
The three Dragons tiles show (l to r) red, green, white; sometimes the White Dragon tile has what looks like a "B" in the centre of the tile as in the first picture.
Mahjong sets sold for Western use should have the number value on the top left or top right of all  the suit tiles.

In play we use tiles of the three Suits (Circles or Dots, Characters and Bamboos) and seven Honours -four winds (East South North and West), and three dragons (Red, Green and White).
The Flower and Season tiles are included in building the wall, but when we get one we place it on the front of the rack, facing out, and take a replacement tile from the Kong Box (or Flower Wall as I call it).
